What to Wear, What to Bring There’s no need to invest in designer yoga clothing or fancy props. Wear comfortable clothes that don’t restrict your movement: sweats, stretchy shorts, leggings, drawstring pants, tank tops, and T-shirts are popular choices. Baggy tops can be a nuisance in inverted postures, unless they can be tucked in. It’s a good idea to wear layers. Muscles stretch best when they’re warm; have a sweatshirt or sweater handy if you’re facing air-conditioning or cold weather. We practice barefoot, but socks can be very welcome for relaxation at the end of class, especially on a chilly morning. I strongly recommend bringing a sticky mat (a.k.a. tapas mat, yoga mat) and a small blanket to class. Many studios have extra mats on hand, but you’ll be most comfortable with your own. Blankets provide much-needed padding for kneeling and reclining poses, and they can be folded, rolled, and spread for cushioning, height, and warmth. |
